The Cucamonga Lounge and Hotel at the Saskatoon Fringe
We’re excited to spotlight our new play at the Saskatoon Fringe Theatre Festival, titled The Cucamonga Lounge and Hotel. Penned and directed by the talented Kevin Kermack, the producer behind multiple shows for the Saskatoon Kids Fringe, including the much-loved Imagination Station series, our new show is a dramatic comedy that is sure to cause a lot of laughs and even a few tears. A Comedy-Drama About Change and Memories
Our new show takes you to a quaint, small-town hotel teetering on the edge of closure. Richelle Cucamonga, the hotel’s spirited – and some might say eccentric – owner, is determined to rescue the hotel, even if it means making a sacrifice close to her heart.
Johnathon, who has been serving the hotel since his teenage years under Richelle and her late husband, is ill-equipped to assume control and steer the hotel out of its troubles. This leaves Richelle with a tough choice. Does she bring in a newcomer, Heather, to take over? If she does, she risks losing more than just her long-time aide.
The heart of the drama lies in Richelle’s struggle to preserve the legacy of her husband in the hotel. She finds fond memories of him in every corner, and she can’t handle the thought that if it changes too much, she might walk through The Cucamonga’s doors and no longer recognize it–and discover the memories are gone as well .
The Cucamonga Lounge and Hotel explores aging, loss, and the delicate balance between preserving memories and embracing change. It delivers a powerful message wrapped in a heartwarming tale.
